Dr. Burfeind has been practicing medical oncology for almost 30 years. He currently is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he cares for oncology patients on a daily basis. He has been focused on using technology to improve access to clinical trials for cancer patients for over a decade.
He led a team that won the UWM-MCW App Challenge in 2013, laying the groundwork for Curova’s current technology. He also won an award at the 2024 Healthcare Innovation Pitch Competition in Milwaukee for his work on using healthcare tech to match patients to clinical trials. His expertise in the field of medical oncology makes Curova’s technology highly relevant to end users, because he is an end user himself.
Our technology reflects exactly what is needed in the clinic, because it has been designed by an actual clinician, working in concert with elite software engineers. The idea of “going from wondering if there is a clinical trial, to offering the patient a highly relevant trial and connecting them to a trial navigator in less than a minute” came from Dr. Burfeind.
